Applications accepted throughout the year

Selection

All applications are checked at the EMBO Office for completeness and compliance with the selection criteria. Receipt of applications will be confirmed by email. Complete applications will be reviewed and ranked by two members of the Advisory Board according to the following criteria:

  • Quality, ambition, intended goals and feasibility of the proposal
  • Journalistic quality of the submitted work samples.

In case of significant differences in the evaluation of the two Advisory Board members, a third member of the Advisory Board will evaluate the application. The scholarships available in the respective application period will be awarded according to the ranking of the respective applicants. The EMBO Office makes the decision on the awarding of the scholarships on the basis of the evaluations by the Advisory Board.

Two to three scholarships can be awarded per application period.

All applicants will be informed no later than four weeks after the closing date of the respective application period. Applicants who do not receive a scholarship will receive feedback on their application. A second, renewed application in another application period is possible, but not a third.
