EMBO has initiated the process to appoint its next Director. The appointment ensures continuity in EMBO leadership and across programmes and activities.
The selection for EMBO Director is carried out by a search committee among EMBO Members through candidature or nomination.
The EMBO Director provides overall leadership for scientific, financial and operational areas, and works closely with EMBO Council to shape and implement long-term strategy. The role also guides the continued development of EMBO Programmes and activities, including the EMBO Fellowship Programme, EMBO Courses & Workshops Programme, EMBO Young Investigator Network, EMBO Global Investigator Network and EMBO Press.
Working closely with EMBC, EMBO Members and partner organizations, including EMBL, the EMBO Director represents EMBO in engagement with scientific, funding and policy communities across Europe and beyond.
Fiona Watt, who was appointed by the EMBO Council in 2021 and took office in January 2022 as the sixth EMBO Director, will continue to serve as EMBO Director until the next appointee takes office in February 2028.
