Molecular Systems Biology does not take copyright from authors – authors retain the copyright to their work and grant EMBO an exclusive license to publish it. The only copyright held by EMBO is on the fully rendered published article in the journal.
The journal applies a number of licences to control the re-use of the content, including CC-BY 2.0 and CC-BY NC. We are aiming to offer more liberal licences for all OA content soon.
