Eminent Polish professor Marta Miączyńska has taken up a key European life sciences role as Chair of EMBO’s governing Council, the primary oversight body of the organization. The new vice-chair is Professor Ivan Đikić, Director of the Institute for Biochemistry II at Goethe University Frankfurt.
“EMBO has a special role in advancing the global life sciences community,” EMBO Director Fiona Watt said. “Election as Council Chair is both a significant honour and a great responsibility. We are delighted to welcome Marta as Chair role following her excellent work as vice-chair from 2024 to 2025 and as Council member since 2021.”
Professor Miączyńska is Director of the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw, Poland. She was elected an EMBO Member in 2017.
“I am honored to take on the position of Chair of EMBO Council. EMBO plays an important role in bringing together the European and global scientific community in the life sciences. I am committed to supporting research excellence, development of scientific careers, and the highest standards of integrity and responsibility in research across Europe,” Miączyńska said.
The Chair and vice-chair positions are elected annually by Council.
