EMBO Life Sciences Mobility Portal

  • Open to group leaders within four years of establishing their first independent labs in an EMBC Member State*
  • An annual award of EUR 15,000 paid by the individual EMBC Member States* for a period of 3 years
  • Membership includes many benefits (EMBO mentorship, PhD course, EMBO YIP lectures, EMBO YIP Symposia, EMBO YIP laboratory management course etc.)

Annual application deadline: 1 April

For predocs and postdocs:

EMBO Molecular Medicine Fellowships

The EMBO Molecular Medicine Fellowships are established to encourage collaborations between clinicians and research scientists and to support clinicians who wish to visit basic research laboratories in a different EMBC Member State. 
Deadline: 15 February 2008.

EMBO Short-Term Fellowships

  • Open to applicants worldwide
  • All applications must involve movement between countries, one of which must be an EMBC Member State*
  • From 2 weeks up to 3 months

No fixed application deadline

For postdocs:
EMBO Long-Term Fellowships

  • All fellowships involve movement between countries, one of these countries must be an EMBC Member State*
  • Post-doctoral fellowship for up to 2 years

Annual application deadlines: 15 February, 15 August

EMBO Installation Grants
The aim of this new scheme is to strengthen science in the participating countries. The grants will help scientists to relocate, set up their labs and establish a reputation in the European scientific community.

  • First-class scientific background and publication record
  • Job offer in participating country at time of application
  • Position outside participating country at least two years prior to application
  • EUR 50,000 annually for 3-5 years
  • Participation in EMBO Young Investigator networking activities

Application deadline: 15 April 2007

  • Funding for organisation of courses and workshops outside Europe

Science and society:

EMBO Award for Communication in the Life Sciences

  • The award (EUR 5000 and a handcrafted gold and silver medal) is for a practising scientist for outstanding science communication with the public

Annual application deadline: 30 June 2007
