About

It is the aim of the EMBO Young Investigator Programme to raise the profile of the chosen young scientists. In order to support and promote the active participation of EMBO Young Investigators at national and international meetings, the programme will support lectures given by Young Investigators.

Eligibility

Applications are welcome from:

  • Meeting organizers who want to invite a EMBO Young Investigator to give a lecture
  • Young Investigators organizing a meeting and planning to invite another member of the programme as a speaker

Programme members are eligible for sponsorship until one year after the expiration of their regular membership, a complete list (sorted by topic) is available.

  • The lecture must be advertised as EMBO Young Investigator Lecture in the conference programme.
  • The choice of the speaker is made by the organizing committee of the meeting.
  • The speaker should be introduced at the meeting with some general comments on EMBO and its activities.
  • It is expected that registration fees be waived for EMBO Young Investigator Lectures.

Application

Organizers of the meeting should fill in the YIP Lecture Application Form (see Forms & Guidelines page) and return it to the EMBO Young Investigator Programme office either by email or post.

EMBO will cover travel, subsistence and expenses directly related to the speaker.

Not covered are registration fee, a stipend for the speaker or costs towards the general organization of the meeting.
A maximum of 800 euro is available for support (1,200 euro for meetings overseas) and the Travel Guidelines apply (
see Forms & Guidelines page). No advance payments will be made. The EMBO Young Investigator giving the lecture is asked to pay for her/his travel, subsistence and hotel expenses and subsequently claim for refund using the Travel Expense Claim Form and YIP Lecture Claim Form (see Forms & Guidelines page). Please attach all bills and receipts.

Travel guidelines (see Forms & Guidelines page)
EMBO Young Investigator Programme will not refund business or first class tickets. It is expected that an effort will be made to find a cheap airline ticket. If the car is used for travel the equivalent of the costs for a second class railway ticket will be reimbursed.

Selection

Decisions on the proposals for lectures are made in consultation with the chair of the EMBO Young Investigator Committee which is possible throughout the year.
