About
EMBO Global Exchange intends to expand the EMBO philosophy of catalysing scientific exchange and fostering talented researchers beyond European borders. It aims specifically at countries that are increasingly committing resources to attain talent, knowledge and skills.
This reflects on the European paradigm that such worldwide exchanges and cooperation will generate considerable added value for all partners participating in this endeavour.
In order to strengthen scientific links between scientists from target countries and European scientists EMBO will fund lecture series by EMBO members and EMBO Young Investigators in local institutes.
Local scientists can apply for support (3,500 euro) throughout the year, but at least 6 months before the planned lecture series. At least 2-3 institutes should be involved.
Funding
The maximum funding provided for an EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Series is 3,500 euro. EMBO should be provided with an estimated budget for the series, plus the envisaged benefit of the lecture series for local science. Decisions on the amount of funding are made by the Global Exchange Committee.
EMBO funds should cover: travel and accommodation costs of the EMBO Member or EMBO Young Investigator (both past and current) giving the lectures and advertising costs (if applicable).
Application
How to apply
EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Series must be held in India, China, Taiwan or Africa, and lectures should be given by an EMBO Member or EMBO Young Investigator. A list of EMBO Young Investigators and EMBO Members is available on our website. Applications should be received from a main co-ordinator with a minimum of one other local partner. The application process is handled via the online application system.
Each application is reviewed and evaluated by the EMBO Global Exchange Committee.
Ongoing application: Applications should however be received at least 6 months before the planned lecture series. (Applicants are informed of the outcome within 6 weeks of their application).
Advertisement & Payment
Advertising & co-sponsorship
All EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Series will be advertised on the EMBO website. Additional advertising (e.g. in local scientific journals, printing and distribution of poster) is left at the organizer's discretion and should be mentioned as an expense in the proposed budget. It is a strict condition of EMBO support that any additional publicity, should clearly indicate the event as an EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Series and must include the EMBO logo with suitable prominence (co-sponsorship may be acknowledged).
Payment of the grant
The first payment, based on an estimate of the local travel, accommodation and advertising costs (if applicable), will be transferred to organizers three months prior to the start of the EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Series. EMBO must be notified of any significant changes to the lecture series budget. Payment of the remaining funds will be transferred to the organizer once the final documentation has been submitted to and approved by EMBO. The organizer is requested to reimburse the travel costs of the lecturer, directly.
Final Documentation
Final Documentation
The following documentation must be submitted to EMBO (on the forms provided) within three months following the end date of the EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Series. Failure to do so will result in the payment being forfeited.
- Short report about the lecture series (scientific and general - this should include a short description of the science presented, brief details about the institutes visited, number of attendees and a short statement from the organizer regarding the impact of the lecture series)
- Financial statement (on the form provided), which must include all income and expenditure relating to the lecture series plus receipts documenting expenditure.
