New alliance with Wellcome Trust and DBT India

Heidelberg, 15 December 2016 – Through a new partnership, EMBO and the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance will fund up to three life science meetings per year in India. The meetings will address discovery and innovation across disciplines, with the speakers and participants discussing global challenges in the context of the life sciences.

“India has a thriving scientific community, and we have seen many excellent scientists come to Europe in the past. This new partnership is to strengthen the interactions”, said Maria Leptin, EMBO Director.

Each scientific meeting will include acclaimed speakers and up to 75 participants, allowing early to mid-career life scientists to interact with leading international experts during a period of three days.

“The Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance is excited at our partnership with EMBO to jointly fund the India | EMBO Symposia. We hope this partnership will catalyze a high level of discussion and identify new areas of interdisciplinary life sciences research for India. We also hope that early career Indian researchers will benefit from the company of visionary science leaders at these meetings,” said Shahid Jameel, Chief Executive Officer, Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance.
