Science Policy lectures

 

About

 

The EMBO Science Policy Programme has limited funds to offer organizers of a scientific event the opportunity to include a non-scientific talk addressing the policy implications of science and technology, including, but not limited to, discussions about ethics, economics, politics, and law.


Examples of themes that could be addressed include, but are not limited to:

  • Genetic and genomic applications
  • Dual-use research
  • Scientific publishing and open access
  • Research integrity
  • Biosafety
  • Science advocacy
  • Research policy

 

Maximum funding:
1,000 euro (for European speakers) and 2,000 euro (for overseas speakers) to cover travel and accommodation costs.

 

Eligibility

 

  • Meeting organizers who want to include a Science Policy talk.
  • The lecturer must hold a presentation on a 'Science & Policy' issue, addressing societal and ethical implications of scientific developments.
  • The lecturer can be a scientist, a policy practitioner, sociologist, ethicist, journalist or science communicator.
  • The lecture should be advertised as 'EMBO Science Policy Lecture'.

Application

 

  • Applications can be received at any time.
  • Organizers of the meeting should fill in the application form and return it to the EMBO Science Policy Office either by email or post.
  • The travel and accommodation costs of the lecturer should be paid by the organizers in advance.
  • Reimbursement will be done upon receipt of a summary of the talk and a list of the costs to be claimed together with all receipts and tickets, using the travel expenses claim form.
  • Decisions on the proposals is made by EMBO.
  • The applicants will be notified about the outcome of her/his proposal within 2 weeks.
