Global Exchange Lecture Series

About

EMBO Global Activities intends to expand the EMBO philosophy of catalyzing scientific exchange and fostering talented researchers beyond European borders. It aims specifically at countries that are increasingly committing resources to attain talent, knowledge and skills. As part of its initiatives to promote interactions between scientists worldwide, EMBO supports lecture series involving EMBO Members and EMBO Young Investigators at institutes in non-European countries; and by prominent researchers from non-European institutes at European institutes. Priority is given to lecture series involving institutes in cooperating countries.

Application

The local scientific organizer applies for support of the researcher involved in the EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Series.

Proposals should be received through the online application system at least 6 months before the planned lecture series. Applications are made by the primary local scientific organizer and should include details about the:

  • researcher who has tentatively agreed to be part of the EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Series;
  • timeframe of the lecture series (estimated start and end date);
  • proposed schedule, including the names of the hosts and the host institutes.

Priority is given to applications for eligible researchers* giving seminars at several institutes (usually three) in countries with cooperation agreements with EMBO. In addition to giving scientific seminars at each institute, it is expected that time is reserved for the researcher to discuss with PhD and postdoc researchers.

Applications are accepted throughout the year and applicants will usually be notified within six weeks after submission of their application.

EMBO will directly contribute towards the eligible researcher's* travel expenses (apex/economy) to participate in the EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Series, up to a maximum of 3,500 euro. The expenses will be reimbursed to the researcher, who will be requested to submit an expense claim form together with related receipts to the EMBO office.

It is expected that the host institutions will arrange and cover the costs of accommodation and internal transport.

Promotion

All EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Series will be advertised on the EMBO website. It is expected that additional advertising (e.g. in local institutes) will be arranged by the local hosts. It is a strict condition of EMBO support that any publicity should clearly indicate the event is an EMBO Global Exchange Lecture Series and must include the EMBO logo with suitable prominence.
