There is one annual deadline for EMBO Advanced Fellowships.

The 2018 deadline for submission of complete applications (including references and an uploaded publication/manuscript) is Monday, 16 July 2018, 14:00 Central European Summer Time.

Selection

All applications are examined by the EMBO Fellowships Office to ensure that they are complete and eligible. Receipt of complete applications will be acknowledged via email within four weeks of the application deadline.

Evaluation

All eligible applications will be sent for written evaluation to one EMBO Member or Young Investigator, expert in the area of the application. The evaluation will focus on the scientific quality and novelty of the research proposal, the track record of the applicant, and the promise for becoming an independent researcher.

Final decision

The EMBO Fellowship Committee will take the final funding decision based on:

  • The progress made on the postdoctoral project so far and in particular the most fundamental advance achieved and the implications for the field of this advance. The Fellowship Committee will take into consideration the candidate's contribution to the design and development of the project.
  • Novelty and biological significance of proposed research. The Fellowship Committee will take into consideration whether the proposed project is a continuation of the work funded by the EMBO Long Term Fellowship or not, and in which direction will the project be taken forward. The Committee will also evaluate the impact and significance for the field and beyond of the new aspects of the project.
  • Promise of the applicant to become an independent researcher and support provided by the host supervisor

Up to 5 awards will be available annually. Applicants will be notified of the outcome at the beginning of December.

Successful applicants may start their fellowship from 1 January 2019.
