Members
EMBO Membership is a life-long honour and scientists are elected annually
on the basis of proven excellence in research. EMBO membership includes
some of the leading researchers in Europe. Forty-five scientists from the EMBO membership have received the Nobel Prize.
An annual meeting gives all EMBO Members an opportunity to provide valuable
input to organizational activities. A dedicated team of managers and
administrators based at EMBO Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany carry
out the full range of EMBO programmes and activities as an international
academy of science with a single scientific focus.

Membership Election
In January of each year, documents related to the membership election
are mailed to the EMBO members. The candidates to be elected are those
who have been nominated the previous year.
The next nomination deadline for ordinary and associate membership nominations for 2008 (election 2009) is
1 December 2008.

The
EMBO Gold Medal
The EMBO Gold Medal is awarded annually and highlights the quality
of European molecular biology performed by young research scientists.
