EMBO Council Chair, Tim Hunt,
knighted
Heidelberg, Germany, 21 June 2006
Tim Hunt, Chair of EMBO Council and EMBO Member since 1978, has been
knighted for his services to science. The Cancer Research UK scientist
was named in the 2006 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, which pays
tribute to selected individuals for their outstanding achievements or
services to the UK.
Sir Tim Hunt received the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
for his work on the cell cycle, alongside fellow EMBO Council Member,
Sir Paul Nurse and US scientist, Leland Hartwell. His current work at
the Cancer Research UK London Research Institute is aimed at understanding
how cyclin-dependent protein kinases (CDKs) trigger cell-cycle transitions
and how the timing of cyclin proteolysis is regulated.
Tim was elected as an EMBO Member in 1978 and has played an active
role in the organisation during the course of his membership. Currently
the Chair of EMBO Council, he is also a Senior Editor for The EMBO Journal
and a member of the Advisory Editorial Board for both The EMBO Journal
and EMBO reports.
